The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation fixed councillor’s quota at Rs 1 crore for development works in each ward for next one year. Now, the councillors can get development works done with this amount in their respective wards

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu headed the meeting at his camp office near Nehru Rose Garden. The agenda, including more than 400 proposals, was presented before the panel, but only 100 proposals could be discussed at the meeting. It was learnt that the panel had approved more than 60 proposals while the others were either cancelled or kept pending

Bond proposal to be shifted to Smart City project

A proposal to issue bonds of Rs 100 crore was presented during the meeting

However, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said the proposal of bonds has been shifted to the Smart City projects

Notably, Rs 809.70 crore is required for the projects of water supply, sewerage and plantation under the AMRUT Scheme. Of these, the MC is supposed to contribute its share of around Rs 161.83 crore while the Central Government’s share is Rs 270.82 crore. The state government will chip in Rs 376.96 crore. To contribute its share, the MC had prepared a proposal for Rs 100-crore bonds

No decision on Smart Vending Zone project

The committee is yet to take a decision on the cancellation of controversial Smart Vending Zone project at BRS Nagar. The Local Bodies Department had earlier recommended cancellation of the current agreement with the private firm after finding violations in the project. The Mayor said they would discuss the matter during the next meeting

No tiles on roads more than 10 feet wide

Owing to the poor condition of the existing interlocking tiles in various areas, the F&CC has decided that the interlocking tiles would not be installed on the streets that are 10 feet wide or more, said Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra. “If a councillor prefers, tiles will be installed on streets less than 10 feet wide only. Tiles installed in wards have either come off or caved in at many places. Residents generally complain about the poor condition of such roads,” said Malhotra
