Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (SCTL) will call for expression of interests (EOIs) as part of implementing two key projects; e-auto and bike sharing under smart city proposal

EoI will be notified. Some of the major automobile firms were contacted in this regard but they have been circumspect regarding the price of vehicles as electrically powered vehicles are yet to gain popularity among users

We are now going for EoI so that interested companies can be brought together on a common platform and we can initiate discussions regarding price and other implications. Electrically powered vehicles are yet to be tested for their market value, and naturally companies especially the major players are not open about the price at which they would want to launch these vehicles,” said a project official

Bike sharing, another novel concept in the city, can be materialized only after going through procedures as mandated by the motor vehicles department, officials point out

SCTL will also issue request for proposals (RFPs) for two other projects; interactive kiosks and upgradation of toilets. Upgradation of existing public toilets has been included under urban basic services of area-based development (ABD) projects. The project will be implemented at a cost of Rs 1.41 crore. The project on interactive information kiosks and display boards has been envisaged under cultural identity and heritage component under ABD head. This project will be implemented at a cost of Rs 0.29 crore

SCTL has already invited tenders for supply and installation of open air gym (outdoor) and play equipment for children at various locations in the city. This will have a defect liability period of one year and operation and maintenance of five years under Smart Cities Mission. Open gyms will be installed at three locations at a cost of Rs 40 lakh

The project officials said that RFPs and EoIs are being invited on an immediate note to add momentum to the implementation of the smart city project. The officials are also keeping in mind the revised deadlines set by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram after a status presentation held in June. It was decided that projects under smart city Thiruvananthapuram scheme should go into implementation mode by May 2019

The projects have been packaged under five modules. These include urban basic services, land use efficiency, cultural identity and heritage, resilience and friendliness and socio-economic inclusiveness. Urban basic services component has the largest number of projects; 15 and it will be implemented at a cost of Rs 771.5 crore
