The first phase of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s much-awaited medical science, research, health and tourism project at Kehlog village in Kandaghat sub-division, which had hit a roadblock in February 2013, will be inaugurated in June

Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust’s secretary Acharya Balkrishna, who inspected the site soon after the 96 bigha land was re-registered in the trust’s name yesterday by the state government, gave this information

Officials, including the SDM and Tehsildar also accompanied Balkrishna during his visit to the site

Balkrishna said they would spruce up the site once its possession was granted after its mutation so that further work could be initiated

The trust had deposited Rs 2.38 crore as the lease money about a month ago to facilitate its registration in their favour informed Tehsildar Kandaghat OP Mehta. He said the remaining formalities like mutation and grant of possession to the trust would be done in the next few days

The foundation stone of this centre was laid on June 20, 2010, by former Chief Minister PK Dhumal and the project had run into rough weather following change of regime in 2012

The Congress government had taken possession of this centre shortly before Yoga guru Ramdev could inaugurate its first phase on February 27, 2013

The lease was first granted on January 19, 2010, by the previous BJP government for 99 years on payment of Rs 17,31,214 in lump sum and rupee 1 was due to be charged as the token lease money every month

It was given as per the provisions of the HP Lease Rules, 1993, and it was supposed to be used for the sole purpose of setting up this medical centre

Its lease was, however, cancelled in February 2013 and then revived at a revised amount of Rs 12 crore in May 2017 by the previous Congress government

The trust representatives had evinced no interest in availing its lease after revision of its lease amount

The BJP government had, however, given it the much-needed relief by scaling down the one-time lease amount from Rs 27 crore to a mere Rs 2.39 crore by invoking Rule 8(d) of the Lease Rules for public cause. This had paved way for its revival

Lokeshwar Sharma, general secretary, district BJP, said the locals were happy to see the project bounce back into reality as it was long awaited

He said it was lamentable that the Congress had stalled it on political considerations as its foundation stone was laid by former Chief Minister PK Dhumal

He thanked the state government for reviving it keeping in view the aspirations of the locals
