After completing the basic groundwork, the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) is to float tenders for the construction of three proposed 5-star hotels in Patna. Currently, the state lacks any such hotel
We expect the tenders to be be floated after a proposed high-level meeting by this month-end. Right now, we can't reveal much except that
The 5-star hotels are to be constructed at two different locations - two on the Beerchand Patel Road on the premises of Hotel Patliputra Ashok and Sultan Palace and the third on the present Bankipur bus stand campus near Gandhi Maidan
BSTDC authorities said the one to come up on the premises of Patliputra Ashok will have a total of 175 rooms and the second at the Sultan Palace will have around 300 rooms whereas the third one near Gandhi Maidan will have a total of 500 rooms, thus providing accommodation to around 1,000 guests at a time
heritage lovers and citizens have strongly opposed the government's plan to demolish the iconic building and two of them moved the Patna High Court which has stayed the proposed demolition of the 100-year-old Sultan Palace built by Sir Sultan Ahmed. "The high court is to hear the case next month," said one of the petitioners in the case, Syed Salman Ahmed, who is the great grandson of Sultan Ahmed.
But the authorities describe it as a major initiative to bring the state on the tourist map. "The construction of 5-star hotels will benefit us a lot. Right now, we face lots of difficulties in arranging hotels for the visiting dignitaries. You know a number of dignitaries from 20 countries will be arriving here for the G-20 meeting and they will expect facilities which we don't have right now," the BSTDC GM said. Stating that availability of such hotels will brand the image of Bihar, the GM said it will take at least 2-3 years to have such hotels ready in Patna
